This one thing can revolutionize your self-care routine
Last week, while attending my Friday morning yin yoga and meditation class, I came across a piece of advice that has the ability to revolutionise the way we see self-care and protect our mental, physical and emotional wellbeing. At the end of class, my yoga teacher placed an affirmation card on each person's mat. I picked up the card that lay resting at the front of my mat and turned it over to see that it read, "fill up your well."
At first, the advice sounded strange. I'm so used to hearing that we should fill up our own cup or that we cannot pour from an empty cup, but never this idea to fill up our well.
If you close your eyes and visualise a well, you'll notice that it's not just surface-level; it delves deep into the ground, requiring time and patience to fill up. Just like that well, our well-being demands a dedicated commitment to self-care. Instead of merely "filling up your cup" with quick fixes, this beautiful notion invites us to nourish ourselves on a much deeper level.
Imagine what it feels like to be truly whole – to have an abundance of mental, emotional, and physical energy that empowers you to conquer life's challenges with grace. Filling up your well is more than an act of self-care; it's a promise to prioritise your energy and vitality. When your well is full, you're equipped to tackle your passions, your relationships, and your work with a greater level of resilience.
Life is an unpredictable journey. We all face hurdles that can leave us feeling drained and weary but when you've taken the time to nurture and fill up your well, those hurdles lose their power to destabilise you. You become a force to be reckoned with, an unstoppable wave of positivity and strength.
So, let's embark on a new mission this week: instead of simply trying to "fill up your cup," let's go deeper. Let's choose to nourish our well – our core – with intention and purpose.
