MOTIVATION: 5 Hacks to organize your life
People often ask me what my tips are for organising your life and getting your life together when you become an adult. I thought this would be a fun topic to cover and a great opportunity to share some words of wisdom! Here's how to organize your work life, home life, your money, and just get your “ish” together as super woman says! (P.S you should totally check out her videos on YouTube!)
1.First, let’s organize your savings or “spendings” and be financially savvy:
When I was around 12 years old, my parents gave my sister and I a savings card and they would load our pocket money and also money for clothes or other expenses onto it once a month. Their intention was to teach us to budget our finances ourselves from a really young age. I think as millennials, we really need to be thinking about finances early on and learn how to budget so that when those bills start rolling around as we enter adulthood, we feel equipped to manage our finances and live within our means.
2. Now, it’s time to work out your work life:
With independence comes the need for self motivation and self discipline. If you’re still studying then it’s important to create a structured study schedule, whereas if you are working then it’s about creating boundaries between your work and personal life and again, creating a work schedule that fits into your lifestyle. Sometimes, going back to the good old timetable can be useful and takes the likelihood of procrastinating out of the equation!
3. Next, let’s organise your home life:
Moving out of home can be a bit of an adjustment but it’s also a very exciting time because you are establishing your independence. Living out of home means you can organise and arrange things how you like, but you also might find yourself collecting things over time and using your home for storage. The older you get, the more you accumulate, so sort through your belongings and donate or throw away what you don’t need and look into some handy storage solutions from Kmart or Ikea if you need.
4. Don’t forget to be realistic about what you set out to accomplish.
I feel like everyone enters their twenties and we experience this heightened level of stress and anxiety as we race to try and make something of ourselves. I've found my twenties to be quite anxiety provoking. At first, I had set these unrealistic expectations on myself of how quickly I needed to establish my career and begin ticking the boxes of what society considers successful. Sometimes it takes some of us a little longer to find direction and clarity, or in other cases, we underestimate how much time we need to effectively reach a goal.
5. And of course, being an adult and growing up means coming to terms with who you are.
Just because you are growing up, doesn’t mean you must have everything figured out or that you need to strive for the perfect job, home, car or wardrobe any time soon.
Being an adult means learning through life and being responsible for yourself while having the freedom to go out and make a life that you desire and is meaningful.
A friend of mine shared this quote with me recently and it sums up this point beautifully so I actually re-posted it on social media this week!
“My mission, should I choose to accept it, is to find peace with exactly who and what I am. To take pride in my thoughts, my appearance, my talents, my flaws and to stop this incessant worrying that I can’t be loved as I am.” - Anaïs Nin
